Christian crowdfunding site GiveSendGo opened a campaign Friday for the Freedom Convoy truckers demonstrating in Ottawa, Canada, raising more than $2 million by Saturday night.
The new campaign opened after GoFundMe canceled the truckers’ first fundraiser, which had raised around $10 million.
By 9 a.m. Sunday morning, the GiveSendGo campaign had netted $2.4 million of the new $16 million goal.
“We’ve decided to team up with an organization called GiveSendGo, which is going to enable us to get donations into the hands of truckers much much quicker,” said Tamara Lich, an organizer with Freedom Convoy 2022.
GoFundMe announced Saturday that it would refund all the money donated to the Freedom Convoy of truckers. Donors’ contributions would be returned automatically.
